Due to continued expansion, the firm is now looking for an experienced and highly motivated solicitor to head up their thriving Private Client department.

The Role
As the Head of Private Client, you will report directly to the Managing Director and be responsible for overseeing and managing the entire Private Client department. You will be an integral part of the firm’s leadership team, playing a key role in both the day-to-day operations and long-term strategic direction of the department.

You will be expected to provide expert legal advice on a wide range of Private Client matters, including but not limited to Wills, Estate Administration, Court of Protection, LPAs, Inheritance Tax Planning, Contentious Probate, Trusts, and Probate. Your ability to handle complex legal issues with a high degree of professionalism will be critical to the continued success of the department.

In addition to managing a varied caseload, you will be responsible for leading, mentoring, and motivating a team of skilled solicitors and legal professionals. Your leadership will help guide them through their own professional development while maintaining the firm’s high standards of client service. You will also be tasked with building and nurturing client relationships, developing new business opportunities, and contributing to the growth and expansion of the firm’s Private Client offering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Private Client department, managing both your own caseload and the team’s overall performance
  • Provide expert legal advice to clients on all aspects of Private Client law, including Wills, Trusts, Probate, Estate Administration, and Inheritance Tax Planning
  • Oversee the department’s management of Court of Protection matters, LPAs, and Deeds of Variation
  • Handle complex and high-value cases with a focus on maintaining excellent client service
  • Lead and mentor a team of solicitors, providing guidance, training, and support as needed
  • Work closely with other departments within the firm to ensure a seamless service to clients
  • Contribute to business development initiatives and help drive the growth of the department through networking, marketing, and client referrals
  • Take an active role in the recruitment and training of new team members to build a strong, cohesive department
  • Manage departmental budgets and ensure the team meets key performance targets
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, internal policies, and quality standards
  • Represent the firm in meetings with clients, external agencies, and in the wider legal community

Skills and Attributes:

  • A qualified solicitor with extensive experience in Private Client law (at least 5 years PQE)
  • Proven experience of managing and leading a team of lawyers and support staff in a busy legal environment
  • A deep understanding of Private Client services, including Wills, Trusts, Probate, Estate Administration, Inheritance Tax Planning, and Contentious Probate
  • Excellent leadership, management, and interpersonal skills with a collaborative approach to team development
  • A track record of building and maintaining strong client relationships
  • Ability to handle complex legal issues with a pragmatic and client-focused approach
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines
  • Proficient in the use of case management systems (CMS), Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate complex legal matters clearly and concisely
  • A proactive, positive attitude with the drive to achieve results and contribute to the firm’s success
  • Passionate about business development and growing the department’s client base and market presence

Salary:
